Dubai empties out a bit over the summer, the heat pushes a lot of shoots indoors or off entirely, and a good number of models travel for other markets or simply go home for a while. Then, around September, the city fills back in. Castings restart. Agencies want current material. Fashion week season lines up on the calendar. And everyone remembers at roughly the same time that their portfolio hasn't been touched since spring.

Summer is quiet for a reason. The heat makes outdoor shoots harder to plan around, a lot of clients and creative directors travel, and many models use the gap to visit family, work other markets, or simply rest before the pace picks back up. Studios stay busy, but the citywide energy drops.
Then September arrives, the temperature becomes workable again, and the season effectively restarts all at once. Agencies start requesting updated digitals from models coming back into rotation. Fashion week activity and brand campaigns pick up through October and November. Castings that were paused resume. By December, everyone wants a slot, and a lot of them want it at the same time.
That last part is the important bit. The rush is real, and it is predictable. It happens every year, and it means the people who plan a season update early are the ones who actually get the dates they want.
I'm already booking into the new season
I'll be honest about where things stand. I've had a steady stream of models and a few agencies get in touch already, asking about availability for the coming months. Some want a straightforward digitals refresh. Others are after a proper portfolio update before they start submitting to new agencies this season. A few are planning around a specific casting or fashion week date.

Why your portfolio needs a look before the rush
A lot changes over a few quiet months, more than most people expect. A tan fades or deepens. Hair grows out, gets cut, gets coloured. Weight shifts a little either way. Skin looks different after a summer indoors versus a summer by the pool. None of this is a problem. It's just life. But it does mean the digitals or portfolio you submitted last spring may no longer show what an agency or client would actually see if you walked into a casting today.
Agencies notice this too. A booker reviewing your file wants to know what you look like now, not six months ago. If your last update was in March and it's now September, that gap alone can be a reason to ask for something fresher before putting you forward for anything.
There's also a simple timing advantage to updating before the season fills up. If your portfolio is ready before October, you can submit the moment a casting or brief comes in. If you're still waiting on a shoot date in November, you may miss the opportunity entirely while you're trying to get booked in.

Signs your portfolio needs updating this season
- Your appearance has visibly changed. New hair, different tan, a shift in body shape. Anything that would make an agency ask "is this really you" needs fresh images.
- Your last shoot was more than six months ago. Even without a major change, agencies and clients generally expect recent work, not last year's set.
- You're applying to agencies you haven't submitted to before. New applications deserve current, honest material, not whatever you had on hand from your first submission.
- Your portfolio has no Dubai-specific work. If you're aiming to book locally this season, local clients and agencies respond well to images that were clearly shot here, not just repurposed from another market.
- You only have digitals and nothing showing range. Digitals get you through the door. A short portfolio update shows what you can actually do once you're in the room.
